About Cossack
Cossack was the original European settlement and the first multi-cultural settlement in the North West. It was also the heart of the pearling industry before Broome took over this role. Today, Cossack offers an unparralleled look at our colonial past.

Nine of the original buildings have been fully restored and many of the original buildings are still visible. Looking back to an earlier time, you will be able to view Aboriginal rock art (petroglyphs) on the cliff guarding the mouth of Butcher's inlet.

Cossack today is a ghost town. However, many of the buildings have been restored including the Galbraith Store (1890-1891)- recently opened by the Bujee Nhoor Phu Aboriginal group for the display and sale of Aboriginal artefacts. At the Old Custom's House cafe, relax over good food and coffee while enjoying the views over Butcher's Inlet.
